Winterize Your Mailbox — Help Protect It From Snowplow Damage

A reusable, locally built Mailbox Snow Shield designed to help deflect heavy snow and slush thrown toward your curbside mailbox.
Western New York winters can be tough on curbside mailboxes, especially when heavy snow and slush are thrown toward the mailbox by passing snowplows.
Our Mailbox Snow Shield provides a seasonal protective barrier between your mailbox and approaching snowplow traffic.
Built locally in Erie County, our heavy-duty wood shields are designed for repeated seasonal use. Install it in the fall, remove it in the spring, and store it for next winter.

Understanding the Mailbox Snow Shield

What Is a Mailbox Snow Shield?
A Mailbox Snow Shield is a seasonal protective barrier positioned in front of your curbside mailbox. It is designed to help deflect or reduce the direct impact of heavy snow and slush thrown from passing snowplows.
The greatest threat to many curbside mailboxes may not be the plow blade itself.
That snow and slush can strike your mailbox with considerable force and may:
  • Knock a mailbox post out of position
  • Break or bend a mailbox post
  • Damage or destroy the mailbox
  • Loosen an otherwise sound mailbox system
  • Leave you replacing your mailbox in the middle of winter
The Mailbox Snow Shield provides an additional layer of seasonal protection between your mailbox and the snow and slush being thrown from the roadway.
What It Isn't
A Mailbox Snow Shield is not a guarantee that your mailbox will never be damaged.
Extremely heavy snow, severe weather, vehicle impact, improper installation, or other conditions beyond the shield's intended use can still result in damage.
The purpose of the Mailbox Snow Shield is simple: to provide an additional layer of protection for your mailbox during the winter months—not to make your mailbox indestructible.
Protect your mailbox with a wood snow plow guard. Built specifically for Western New York weather. Mailbox Protective Barrier.

Built for Western New York Winters

Our Mailbox Snow Shields aren't lightweight plastic accessories purchased off a store shelf.
They are locally hand-built from solid wood and designed specifically as reusable seasonal barriers for curbside mailboxes.
The shield can be assembled, installed, removed, and stored season after season.
Install it in the fall, remove it in the spring, and use it again next winter.
There is no need to dig a permanent hole, pour concrete, or leave the protective structure in place year-round.

No-Dig Installation — Easily Assembled

The Mailbox Snow Shield consists of three primary sections:
1. Shield Base - The bottom section provides the foundation for the shield.
2. Protector Support - The support section connects the base to the protective portion of the shield.
3. Mailbox Protector -The front section creates the protective barrier between your mailbox and approaching snowplow traffic.
The sections fit together and are secured with bolts for seasonal assembly and removal.
Installation Is Simple
Step 1 — Position the Shield The assembled Mailbox Snow Shield is positioned in front of your mailbox with the protective face directed toward approaching snowplow traffic.
Step 2 — Secure the Base The shield is secured using stakes driven into the ground through the base. Where appropriate, additional weight such as sandbags may also be used.
Step 3 — Add Your Address Your custom reflective street-address plank is attached to the shield using the supplied reflective material.
No digging. No concrete. No permanent installation. Typical installation takes only a few minutes when site conditions permit.

Customize Your Mailbox Snow Shield

Every Skid Row Man Mailbox Snow Shield can be painted a solid base color of your choice at no additional charge.
Who says winter protection has to look industrial?
Choose a color that complements:
  • Your mailbox
  • Your home's exterior
  • Your trim
  • Your landscaping
  • Your existing outdoor color scheme
Because the shield is hand-crafted from wood, you can personalize it after installation with your own decorative lettering, artwork, seasonal designs, or personal touches.
Stay Visible During Winter
Visibility is especially important during snowstorms and after dark.
We strongly recommend incorporating reflective material or high-visibility accents into your design so that the shield remains easy to see by motorists and snowplow operators.
Your custom reflective street-address plank is included with your purchase.
Snow Guards - Mailbox Protector Shields can be upgraded to a composite decking material available upon request.

Is Your Mailbox Already Damaged or Failing?

Need a Temporary Mailbox Until Spring?
If your mailbox or post has already been damaged, but frozen ground or winter weather conditions prevent the installation of a new permanent mailbox system, Skid Row Man can provide a temporary solution to get you through the winter.
For an additional $65, we can:
  • Remove your damaged mailbox and debris
  • Install our Mailbox Snow Shield
  • Mount a temporary heavy-duty mailbox to the shield system
  • Provide you with a functional mailbox while you wait for conditions to improve
This gives you a complete temporary mailbox and snow-shield system in one visit, without having to install a temporary post in frozen ground.
When spring arrives and conditions are suitable for a permanent mailbox installation, you can then replace the temporary system with the mailbox and post system you really want.
