Winter Emergency Mailbox Solutions - Buffalo & Western New York
When winter weather, frozen ground, or other conditions make a traditional mailbox replacement impractical, Skid Row Man provides emergency and temporary mailbox services throughout Buffalo, Erie County, and surrounding Western New York communities.
If your mailbox was damaged by a snowplow, vehicle, storm, or other winter incident, we can help you determine whether it can be repaired, temporarily replaced, or permanently replaced when conditions permit.
Your mailbox is damaged. The ground is frozen. What do you do now?
Winter weather can make a mailbox emergency more difficult. A vehicle, snowplow, storm, or other damage may leave you without a usable mailbox, while frozen or snow-covered ground can make a traditional mailbox replacement impractical.
You don't necessarily have to wait for spring to get your mail service back.
We offer four emergency mailbox solutions designed to help restore mail service when weather and ground conditions make a conventional installation difficult.
You can purchase or rent any of the four options. Rental service includes delivery, setup, and removal.
Serving Western New York
Emergency mailbox service is available throughout much of Erie County, including Buffalo, Clarence, Amherst, Lancaster, Williamsville, Depew, West Seneca, Hamburg, Cheektowaga, and surrounding communities.

The Snow Shield is normally designed to protect an existing, undamaged mailbox from heavy snow and slush thrown by passing snowplows. When an immediate temporary mailbox is needed, we can add a temporary heavy-duty mailbox to the shield system instead.
Includes:
- Custom-built Mailbox Snow Shield
- Temporary heavy-duty mailbox attachment
- Removal of the damaged mailbox and readily removable debris
- Reflective street-address identification
- Professional delivery and installation

When Spring arrives and ground conditions permit, you can replace the temporary mailbox arrangement with the permanent mailbox and post system you want.
Want to Keep the Snow Shield?
Set it up in fall. Take it down in spring. Use it again next winter.
If you rent the Snow Shield this winter and decide you'd like to keep it for future winters, you have the option to purchase it and continue using it to protect your permanent mailbox year after year.
Potential Snow Shield buy-back: If the purchased Snow Shield is returned in reasonable, undamaged condition and passes our final inspection, Skid Row Man will buy it back for $50, subject to the applicable buy-back terms.
Option 4
Surface-Mounted Concrete Footer Mailbox
Approximately 10 inches of ground penetration required
A mailbox solution that can become permanent when ground conditions permit.
When conventional post installation isn't practical, our surface-mounted concrete footer system provides another option - provided the installation location allows us to dig approximately 10 inches into the ground.
A galvanized steel mailbox mounted on a 4" × 4" pressure-treated wood post, with the post securely mounted to a 9.25" × 16" × 7.5" concrete footer.
Includes:
- 9.25" × 16" × 7.5" concrete footer
- 4" × 4" pressure-treated wood mailbox post
- Galvanized steel mailbox
- Reflective street address numbers
- Surface-mounted Anti-Sway / Anti-Tip mounting system
- Professional delivery and installation
- Removal of the damaged mailbox and readily removable debris
- Installed in the ground — approximately 10 inches required

- Rental Option:
- $ 175 initial setup payment
- $ 120 refundable deposit
- $ 35 minimum 14-day rental
- $ 20 future permanent-mailbox rebate
- $ 3/day after the first 14 days until the rental is removed
Important: This option requires the ability to dig at least approximately 10 inches into the ground at the installation location. If frozen ground or other conditions prevent this, one of our other mailbox options may be more suitable.
This Mailbox system can become a permanent mailbox installation
Unlike a conventional temporary mailbox, this system can remain in place as a permanent mailbox installation when conditions and the installation site are suitable.
If seasonal movement occurs, Skid Row Man also offers a seasonal mailbox releveling service for $49 to help keep the mailbox properly positioned.

Emergency Mailbox Rentals Include
Delivery - Setup - Removal
Permanent Replacement Mailbox Rebate: All rebates apply only toward the purchase of a permanent new mailbox system from Skid Row Man when weather and ground conditions permit permanent replacement. The rebate does not apply to the rental itself and is not a Snow Shield buy-back.
About the $ 50 Snow Shield Buy-Back
The $ 50 Snow Shield buy-back is a separate offer and is available only when a customer purchases a Mailbox Snow Shield outright for the season
The $50 buy-back does not apply to a rented Snow Shield included with Option 3.
Security Deposit Refund
Your security deposit is fully refundable when the rented unit is returned in reasonable condition, allowing for normal wear and tear resulting from ordinary weather conditions during the rental period.
Damage resulting from a vehicle, snowplow, collision, vandalism, misuse, or other extraordinary incident is not considered normal wear and tear.
If the rental unit is returned with damage beyond normal wear and tear, the security deposit may be partially or fully applied toward the cost of repair or replacement, based on the extent of the damage.
The amount of any deduction will be determined by Skid Row Man based on the condition of the returned equipment and the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.

Important Emergency Mailbox Service Information
Temporary Above-Ground Solutions
All of our emergency above-ground mailbox solutions are intended to restore mail service until a permanent mailbox replacement or installation can be performed when weather and ground conditions permit.
These solutions are not intended to replace a conventional permanent mailbox installation unless specifically identified as a permanent installation option.
Skid Row Man can provide and set up the mailbox, but USPS mail delivery is ultimately controlled by the United States Postal Service. If the mailbox is being relocated or substantially changed, the customer may need to coordinate with their carrier/post office.
Ground & Lawn Conditions
Because these services are provided during periods of difficult weather, frozen ground, snow, mud, and changing seasonal conditions, Skid Row Man cannot guarantee that the surrounding soil, lawn, or ground conditions will not require repair or restoration following delivery, setup, removal, or seasonal changes.
Every effort will be made to minimize disturbance to the property and to perform the work as carefully as conditions allow.
Option 4: The Surface-Mounted Concrete Footer system may serve as a permanent mailbox installation when the installation site and ground conditions are suitable. The other above-ground emergency solutions are intended primarily as temporary solutions.
